Battle of the Atom part 1 of 10.
While DC is having the epic crossover event, Marvel is having another one with X-Men. Battle of the Atom opens up, and it already presents us some very familiar elements with X-Men stories: Dystopian future, and time travel. The story might feel familiar with X-Men stories from the 90s, but that’s a good thing.
The story deals with how the X-Men from the past is going to effect the future staying in the preset (funny). It’s a great first issue, and it has me hooked right away. Bendis’ writing is as good as ever with comedy blends with serious moments However, since it’s Bendi’s writing, the issue is clearly missing some of the characters from the X-Men title. Hopefully it will be different when it’s X-Men’s turn to run the event.
The encounter between All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-men is awesome. It’s great to see the two team working together, and it also let us know just how severe the situation is to have the past X-men around. My only problem is that the opening can be a little too long, and it feels like an introduction for first time readers.
We don’t really get to see the future X-Men until the last page. Thank god Marvel gives us two chapters this week.
