The Lego Movie Review

Everything is awesome.

Okay, I admit, the idea of a Lego movie is a little crass, and ridiculous. An entire movie based around a brand of toy might sound like a money making scheme for you to buy more Lego from the movie. While half of that might be true, but it doesn’t mean the Lego Movie is a bad movie. In fact, it’s a wonderful movie with great characters and stories. Something you don’t want to miss out.

The movie takes place in the Lego world with a everyday construction worker named Emmet (Chris Pratt). Emmet likes to follow orders, and does everything according to the instruction paper. He’s nothing special, and he’s a complete nobody. Until one day he encounters a girl named Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks), a Master Builder who’s able to build things without the instruction. Through the journey, it’s revealed that Emmet is the “special” one, the one that can make the world a better place, free from the evil President Business (Will Ferrell). Imagine Matrix and you can understand the situation better. Anyway, the movie is great with uplifting messages. Wonderful character developments, great story and pacing. This movie is really something for both kids and adults.

One of the reason that makes this movie great is the character cameos. Batman, Superman and many other DC superheroes are just the tip of the iceberg. There are also Mikey from TMNT, Gandalf, Dumbledore. Historical figures such as Abe Lincoln and Shakespeare are in the movie as well. While most of these characters don’t have a big role in the film, it’s Batman that steals the spotlight. He is an ass, but it’s really fun to watch him being a part of the film’s motley crew.

It’s also funny watching Green Lantern being super lame, and Superman cannot stand him at all.

The use of Lego gives the movie an unique action style of action sequences. Watching Lego pieces falling apart, building together rapidly before your eyes can be really exciting. Scenes with explosion or ocean waves are beautifully done as well with small Lego pieces flying across the screen representing the explosion sparks, or waters. It really creates an unique environment that only a Lego Movie can achieve.

The twist of the movie is great. It explains everything about the movie, and it brings a whole different layer of character development to it. I usually don’t have problem spoiling things in my review, but this particular one is too great that you really have to watch it yourself. All I can say is that the twist is an emotional one that ties up the movie really well. It can really have you view the entirely movie differently, and make the Lego movie something really special.

In the end, the Lego Movie is a great one that really touches the heart of the audience. It might be a movie based around a toy line, but it’s really something more than that. It teaches us that we can all be creative, and we can all be special. We are not always bound by rules, and things can always be creative.
